As Obsidian’s Fallout: New Vegas looms huge on videogaming’s horizon, the game’s accompanying PR & promotion machine is clearly keen to make use of any snippet of information – irrespective of how banal – to help push consumer awareness.
Case in point, the latest announcement designed to whet gamer appetites is that none other than former Friends star Matthew Perry will be lending his voice to Benny, the silver-tongued leader of the Geckos relatives (pictured above).
Let’s face it, if your videogame is in need of instant gravitas, you’d be mad to look any further afield than an actor who made his name playing the irritatingly sarcastic Chander Bing – in a sitcom that ended several years ago.
That being said, Perry’s vocal talents ought to slot right in alongside the likes of Zachary Levi (Chuck), Wayne Newton (Mr. Las Vegas), Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation), & Felicia Day (The Guild).
“The voice acting provided by these actors helps drive the compelling & immersive story of Fallout & further adds to the general gameplay experience,” commented Pete Hines, vice president of PR & Promotion at Bethesda Softworks, in a USA Today document.
If the prospect of listening to Matthew Perry’s dulcet tones somehow fails to stimulate your enthusiasm gland, other, more notable performers providing character voices in Fallout: New Vegas include the likes of Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Kris Kristofferson (The Blade Trilogy), & William Sadler (The Shawshank Redemption).
Fallout: New Vegas is a continuation of Bethesda’s critically acclaimed Fallout 3 & will be released on October 19 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 & Games for Windows.
