We can get an LED tv for the same price as an LCD tv, of the same size.

I'm assuming the LED would be the best bet, but is there anything I should look out for? particular brands / resolutions for general gaming?

Good choice, 26" is the best size for gaming IMO.

It's all about 32" for gaming I can't get on with huge tv's they feel laggy.

It might help if we knew your location due to different countries having different deals.
I myself bought a new Bush 26" LED TV with Full HD for only £200.
Its awesome for gaming.
