This thread offers information on the latest weapon technology being provided for the US military, to help them deal with special situations more easily and more cost effectively.
The US military have unveiled there new 'smart gun' called the XM-25 that has been created for the use of soldiers when taking down insurgents that maybe hiding behind walls. This has been created to rule out the need to call in air-strikes when dealing with those situations. Although it has a high production cost it is still more cost effective for the military to use compared to calling in an air-strike. The US military have called it 'The game changer'
The concept of the gun works using a laser targeting system (Laze) in conjunction with 25mm high explosive rounds that are programmed to detonate over a target once the distance has been set vie the targeting laser. So basically how it works is you locate you target and using the laser targeting system (Laze) adjust an aim point and fire away, but you you can add or take a few meters from the distance so the 22mm round explodes in exactly the right place.

This new weapon that has this 'smart' technology embedded into it making it a real success for the US military, the new technology gives more precise control of the weapon to the user instead of the usual rough guidance of a normal grenade launcher. This new weapon has already been deployed to US military serving in Afghanistan and it could well be soon issued to the British special forces.
