There is a reason underground is not mainstream, it's because it's shit. If it was any good it would become mainstream.

Honestly, this isn't my type of music at all. Some of the mainstream stuff I can listen to, but the underground stuff is just so bad.

It's all about marketing, ultimately the reason underground music is not in the mainstream is because it's not marketed as heavily as well known artists' music is; small record companys, minimal or no airtime on the radio etc. I mean take a look at dubstep which has found itself being sucked into the mainstream through artists like magnetic man, rusko etc. Now jump up drum and bass sounds very similar to dubstep it just has a faster tempo near same synth sounds, if it received air time on prime time shows then it would find its way into the charts but it won't: less marketing.

This is why only a handful of dnb artists for instance have ever made it into the mainstream (and quite frankly none of them are particularly special) whilst others such as the likes of Hazard, Netsky and what have you are unknown to a very large proportion of the population.

How do you make it big in the music scene? Make whatever house tunes or sing some songs send a demo off to one of the major record company's, if they like it they'll push you hard into the mainstream.

Depends where you define "the top" as really diifferent people have different goals like being popular within a certain group, the top isn't necessarily commercial success.

"Better music" to the majoriity, record companies and probably you is your standard mainstream bollocks that the public will lap up and thats why record companies invest it because they know they will get huge returns on it, do you really think they care about the quality of the music? All they care about is filling their own pockets.

I could record a tune in 5 mins using a tamborine as an instrument and as long as Universal music group were assured it would make them buckets full of money I could have a contract within a few weeks and a cd full of shit could then be on the shelf of every hmv in the UK.
