What I'm going to be soon ranting about is something pretty light, nothing controversial or offensive.

The subject which I speak of is Sniping. Simple as that, yes; Sniping..

Let's just go back before video-games were at the level they are today; in modern times. Sniping as it's known came from the act of shooting down an avian known as the "Snipe" using, typically, some form of rifle, and the rifles which came to be designed for such an act were named Sniper rifles, quite rightly as the men shooting down these Snipes would be called Snipers. It's simple, it works, It's sound, that part is fine.

Sniping, in and of itself is when someone or something is shot with a rifle that's designed to make that shot quick, effective and precise. Now, obviously having such a rifle, would have its' draw backs such as; a sniper missing their shot. This could effectively ruin all chances at ever taking another shot any time soon. Since these rifles are so precise, and in the early days, not exactly the king of the castle known as "Rate of fire". We're going to have to be careful and remain undetected so we can line up our shot, take it, and be sure that it counts.

Not to sound patronising, but many people forget this. Sniping is NOT jumping around like a loony firing off your entire supply of ammo until you happen to hit your target in the head without aiming. If you want to do that, grab a sub-machine gun, it's what they are made for, they're good at it. Sniping is an entire different matter, typically consisting of sitting, waiting and picking out your target, waiting for the right time and then firing.

Your job as a sniper is not to take all the glory, shoot all the enemies in the head and perform oral sex with their corpses (Tea-bagging). Your job is to select and take out key targets on the battlefield or wherever the call may take you. However, if you are skilled enough to pull off the previously mentioned act, regardless of how silly, immature and obnoxiously stupid it is. Well done you, I suppose you deserve to act like a moron for being so good, so good in fact that you can manage to shoot me in the head whilst performing a 360 degrees turn after jumping off a building. All without using your scope and performance enhancing software. :FU:


Anyway, this was just something that I felt would be a nice starter as my first Rant / Review posted here on this forum. Nothing special but at least it is something. Oh and yes, iMad.





As an extra treat I have uploaded a video showing you what sniping isn't and how it's usually portrayed wrongly. Although, my video isn't a good example of how people cock it up since I know what sniping is and how it is supposed to be done so I can't help myself and so I still tried to do it right whilst doing it wrong, if that can make sense. Also on that same subject, this game play is in Team Fortress 2, a game where sniping is rather difficult to mess up horribly but unfortunately, it can still be done even here.

Everyone will have different views on this, I am aware of and respect your choice in gaming style. Though regardless, this does annoy me, because the result of this is, that sniping (In games) is changing to fit the "Quick scoping" style of sniping which annoys me. All fast paced, running around using the rifle as a shotgun or some other on the fly weapon.

Sure, it's fun, I'm all for fun and yes, it can be effective if used with someone who's skilled in that way but regardless, this annoys me.

It annoys me mostly because I miss team work. Remember that thing? The thing that teams would use. The sniper doing his job how it should be done, the CQC guy doing his part and so forth. Everyone having a role, carrying it out and succeeding in their objective as a result. I miss those days.
