You should of told the teacher he pushed you out your chair, then he would of got in trouble. School is always going to punish both of you for you both doing something, and you didn't react to him pushing you instantly. You planned out revenge, which is down-right illegal in the first place.

Still, I wouldn't worry about him. Even if you do defend yourself, you will both get in trouble. School has the "right" to restrict your rights. Someone could bring a gun to school, and points it at you, then in self defense you punch him, and then end up you both getting suspended, but the one with the gun gets jail time.
