Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced he is taking medical leave from the company. He emailed employees to say he was taking a break to focus on his health.
He will still be chief executive of Apple and will be involved in major decisions, howver the day-to-day running of the company will be done by Tim Cook(Chief Operations Officer)
He has been suffering from pancreatic cancer which he was first diagnosed with 2004 and underwent surgery later that year to remove a tumour from his pancreas.
Investors have to constantly be reassured that the chief executive is in good shape every time he takes a bad turn. This news has also caused Apple's share price to plummet, Apple shares closed down 6.4% on the Frankfurt stock exchange.
In his e-mail Mr Jobs said he would be back at work as soon as he can.

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple's day to day operations.
This also comes with the rumour of the imminent announcement of the new Apple iPad version 2.
Personally I hope Steve all the best on the road to recovery and hope he is back soon. You must login or register to view this content.
