all right i think thats everything for the requirements.
STEP 2: REPLACING THE CA24
all right after you installed asbestos, run it. after it loads up and tells you to hit [X], do it. you should be in the XMB now. place the downloaded CA24.cer from step 1: 6. onto a usb. start comgenies file manager. on one side navigate to dev_rwflash>data>cert and on the other side dev_usb000. high light CA24.cer and hit select. the screen should be red. then hit "O" to copy it and hit "start". after it is copied (should take one second) exit comgenie file manager and turn your ps3 off.
STEP 3: SETTING UP UBUNTU
open vmware player
click create a new virtual machine
click install disc image (.iso) and navigate to your ubuntu 10.10.iso
write a name, a username, and then password (REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD)
hit next until u get to the partitioning. i gave my ubuntu 20gb, which is recommended.
then on the next screen hit customize harware and change NAT to bridge and start your virtual machine. You must login or register to view this content.
Allow Ubuntu to install correctly. after it is installed it is recommended that you shut it down from the top right power button and then start it up again. after it is loaded go to: Applications-accessories-Terminal
type sudo apt-get install dnsmasq
if it prompts for a password type in the password you created, don't worry its normal that you can't see your password being typed.
after it loads that, type sudo gedit /etc/hosts
a pop up should appear which looks like the image below but without anything typed into the area which is highlighted. You must login or register to view this content.
what you want to do is write exactly what is added in the picture to start. then we will change both of the "192.168.1.113"'s to what is needed for you. so now in windows open up CMD (start, search, cmd,[enter]) and type "ipconfig" (without "") and scroll up and find out your first IPv4 address. now that address should be used to replace the one in the picture. by default it should look similar to the one in the pic, you may only just have to change the last 2 digits. now hit save and exit the text editor.
Minimize VMware for now.
STEP 4: SETTING UP CHARLES
I assume that you have it installed and cracked
all right first things first we need to make a ps3-updatelist.txt
copy that and paste it into a text document and name it ps3-updatelist (extention .txt)
place it somewhere easy to access like the desktop.
Now open up charles: Tools -> Map Local. | Check the box and click Add (REPLACE eu to whatever region you're in! {eu, uk, us, mx, au...etc etc} You must login or register to view this content.

STEP 5: CONNECTING TO PSN:embarrassed:
IN DNS SETTINGS: go back to your VMware and go to the terminal again are type ifconfig
use this picture as reference to see where YOUR DNS address is. use that address for both primary and secondary. You must login or register to view this content.
^^^ so in his case he would use 192.168.1.141 as his dns addresses.
PROXY SETTINGS: the address is your normal computers Ipv4 address. it can be found by typing ipconfig in CMD. it should be similar to the DNS setting.
PORT: this is where that port i told you to jot down would be placed. if you forgot, go to proxy>proxy settings in charles to see it again
Now save your connection settings but do not test the settings. turn your ps3 off.
now close charles.
open charles.
turn your ps3 back on and test the connection, and if you followed this correctly you should now be connected to PSN YAY You must login or register to view this content.

if this doesnt work for you, you need to carefully do this again, it took me 3 times before i got it right. double check everything, the littlest thing will mess the whole thing up.
IF AT ANY POINT YOU GET A FIREWALL POP UP OR CHARLES POP UP, CLICK ALLOW. AND IF PSN IS TIMING YOU OUT, TURN YOUR PS3 OFF, CLOSE CHARLES, OPEN CHARLES AND THEN TURN THE PS3 ON AGAIN, AND REMEMBER TO CHECK IF UBUNTU IS NOT SLEEPING OR IN STANDBY, IT SHOULD BE ON AND LOGGED IN FOR YOU TO SIGN IN.
