I'm asking because I'm getting the new Turtlebeach PX5 and it has optical cables, and I heard you can't record with them. Is that true? I can't find any other info on this.

HDMI doesn't work with a PVR you need Component.

You can still use your headset just need to enable multi sound output on your PS3 Sound settings.
