Yes I did miss the NGU 'blog team' applications, because I was on holiday. When I got back I was really annoyed when I found they had happened when I was on holiday and was doubting whether to quit NGU. But fortunately I didn't and i said to myself lets carry on. So here I am, back and posting news for the NextGenUpdate community.

Japan has been receiving minor earthquakes for the past couple of weeks, and no-one has heard of these because there not 'big'. The cause of all these earthquakes is that Japan sits on top of the worlds 3 biggest tectonic plates, which are constantly moving.

What happened?
At around about 5:45am (EST Timezone) a earthquake struck Japan hitting 8.9 on earthquake scales. The shock of the earthquake was more than 8,000 times more powerful than the current New Zealand earthquakes. There has been a confirmed death toll from the Earthquake in Sendai, its currently at 30.
So what, Japan always has earthquakes?
Yes, Japan are always having 'minor' earthquakes which leaves no damage at all, because the buildings are designed to 'move' around when an earthquake has hit. But this time, the epicenter (center of the earthquake) was out at sea. Meaning that one of the surround tectonic plates has moved under another plate, causing a massive rise in sea level.
Wow, a rise in sea level hows that going to effect people?
Firstly, a massive amount of water is lifted 5-10 meters higher than it usually is, and is forced towards the shore and secondly some water is 'sucked' into the crack.
Ok, so a little bit of water was pushed towards the land, and what?
The water that was 'sucked' into the crack out at sea is then 'spat' out of the hole and is added to the 10-20 meter high waves that are heading into shore. This may not seem bad, but when the water that was forced into shore gets closer to land, the momentum speeds up as is gets closer. But when the water was sucked into the crack, the water that was on the coast of Japan was sucked out, attracting tonnes of attention, Children and adults were amazed by this and they headed out to see what the sea had left behind.
So what happens to all the people then?
Well, the sea then heads back into shore with double the speed and nearly two times the height of a normal wave. It then hits the shore and causes mass destruction taking all the Children's and adults lives.
Were does the sea go?
The sea then heads into shore and takes out everything in its path. Anything that is in its path is either crumpled and destroyed or carried along with the water. This is were most of the deaths occur, due to people being trapped inside their homes or cars.
Does the water go back out?
No, the water doesn't go back out, it will keep on moving towards major cities. Once the water loses its momentum it stops and stays in one spot waiting to be moved.
How does the water 'move' ?
Its will eventually evaporate and turn back into rain and end back up in the sea. Or it will be moved industrially via machines and vehicles.

It is now feared that there will be a nuclear meltdown in the nuclear power plants Fukushima. Japan is fearing the worse, and preparing for the worst scenario. There are 3 power plants on the East coast of Japan, were the Tsunami/Earthquake has hit the worst. Cesium, a form of nuclear energy has said to of been leaked into the water supply, this is yet to be confirmed.

30 minutes after the Tsunami hit, cars piled to the petrol stations with lines of 20-30 cars all going for one pump. This continued through-out the night, and most petrol stations have now closed as Petrol has now run out.

People are being told to get to high ground, as another Tsunami is feared.

Radiation from Japan's quake-stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant has reached harmful levels, the government says.
The warning comes after the plant was rocked by a third blast, which appears to have damaged one of the reactors' containment systems for the first time, if breached, more serious radioactive substances will be sent out into the air.

I am going to be updating this thread throughout the next few days. I will be updating the following.
Japan has been receiving minor earthquakes for the past couple of weeks, and no-one has heard of these because there not 'big'. The cause of all these earthquakes is that Japan sits on top of the worlds 3 biggest tectonic plates, which are constantly moving.
The Death toll

Day 1: 11 March - 80,000

What happened?
At around about 5:45am (EST Timezone) a earthquake struck Japan hitting 8.9 on earthquake scales. The shock of the earthquake was more than 8,000 times more powerful than the current New Zealand earthquakes. There has been a confirmed death toll from the Earthquake in Sendai, its currently at 30.
So what, Japan always has earthquakes?
Yes, Japan are always having 'minor' earthquakes which leaves no damage at all, because the buildings are designed to 'move' around when an earthquake has hit. But this time, the epicenter (center of the earthquake) was out at sea. Meaning that one of the surround tectonic plates has moved under another plate, causing a massive rise in sea level.
Wow, a rise in sea level hows that going to effect people?
Firstly, a massive amount of water is lifted 10-20 meters higher than it usually is, and is forced towards the shore and secondly some water is 'sucked' into the crack.
Ok, so a little bit of water was pushed towards the land, and what? The water that was 'sucked' into the crack out at sea is then 'spat' out of the hole and is added to the 10-20 meter high waves that are heading into shore. This may not seem bad, but when the water that was forced into shore gets closer to land, the momentum speeds up as is gets closer. But when the water was sucked into the crack, the water that was on the coast of Japan was sucked out, attracting tonnes of attention, Children and adults were amazed by this and they headed out to see what the sea had left behind.
So what happens to all the people then?
Well, the sea then heads back into shore with double the speed and nearly two times the height of a normal wave. It then hits the shore and causes mass destruction taking all the Children's and adults lives.
Were does the sea go?
The sea then heads into shore and takes out everything in its path. Anything that is in its path is either crumpled and destroyed or carried along with the water. This is were most of the deaths occur, due to people being trapped inside there homes or cars.
Does the water go back out?
No, the water doesn't go back out, it will keep on moving towards major cities. Once the water loses its momentum it stops and stays in one spot waiting to be moved.
How does the water 'move' ?
Its will eventually evaporate and turn back into rain and end back up in the sea. Or it will be moved industrially via machines and vehicles.
