I don't usually spend my time judging the negative and positive connotations behind internet smilies, but here goes.

The eyes look indifferent, as if the smilie has no real goals or meaning in his/her life. It is seeking something to make it happy, or to give it something to live for. Other smilies have eyes that suggest happiness, such as or .

The mouth suggests that the smilie is in a state of sorrow, not knowing the direct cause of said sadness. Everything makes it sad, so it expresses some sort of a silent sigh by clenching its mouth closed.

It could also just be bored. Maybe it has a mediocre career and is striving to become someone, to separate itself from the other well known smilies.

So, all in all, I would say it is a sad smilie.

From where I am it is a laughing smiley Maybe the L is for Lol or laughing or something, Idk but that is what people use it as =D
