Post: Debating the Destiny of the Human Race
04-27-2011, 02:31 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I haven't really posted in this section in a long time and thought I'd revive an old debate.

Humans are naturally gifted with the ability to destroy themselves. We have created weapons of unimaginable destructive power and with those can instantly destroy entire nations, wiping out their people and culture. I am referring to the infamous nuclear weapons that a handful of countries posses.

Even without these weapons, humans are considerably adept in destroying themselves. So much so that has become second nature to most of us and that when in our natural state, without the laws, regulations, and standards society gives us, we would most likely tear each other apart.

If you disregard literal destructive power and look at social destruction, such as outcasting a member of society for what they believe in, then we are also masters of that.

Discuss what you think what we as a race, the human race as a whole, are destined to.

Either death by our own hands, death by an expanding sun, or death by alien invasion.

Top three likelihoods.

To be completely honest I don't think the nations government will have power that long from now ( referring to hundreds of years ) I think our race will try and "prevail" from under the authority of higher power. I think we will go back to our natural instincts, and become destined for destruction like drackos said. It may be in a hundred years.. Thousand years..or however long it may be. It won't be in our generation but I guarantee sooner o later we will tear each other apart in the never ending fight for existence.

At the rate we expand and develop our technologies we may one day inhabit our moon as well.

2012 is for sure so... Not much of a destiny lol
But seriously, I think we will see cultures and civilizations fall apart, including America soon, and we will see more nations arise. Just like how it's been going on (in my belief) for 7000 years or so.

This is tough to say. Socially, we are heading down an ignorant road that will stop progress. There isn't necessarily a doomsday, but without some reorganization this will not work. We are overcrowded, overusing resources due to population increase, and segregating our own citizens.

War wise we are in trouble. It is tough to say which direction this will turn

Daddy's home.
We will destroy ourselves. The amount of hatred in the world is ridiculous. We are all here on this planet as one. We are all the same as each other, so why do we need to fight each other? If it's not countries fighting each other, it's individual people. You can walk down the street, bump into someone by accident and before you know it you have a fist in your face.

We can't look after our own planet. We can use so many different types of energy, like wind, tidal etc but we don't because there is no money to be made in them. Oil makes billions in revenue for countries, so we use that and destroy the Earth with it.

Humans don't deserve another planet to **** up. We just don't. We can't look after the one we have, so why should we **** up another planet?

That's why we will destroy ourselves, whether it's 1 year or 100 years, we will cause the Earth to end.

How so? Provided we don't destroy ourselves before our understanding of the universe develops further we could expand outwards, firstly to the moon and mars and maybe in the future even further, maybe from galaxy to galaxy.

That's if we don't destroy ourselves first, however.

Good post, and that's a possibility, it could be like an endless cycle of civilization growing and growing and then eventually falling back down again.

Yup, exactly. We are a destructive species and we will strive to use up the resources of all the planets we can.

IMO a mass-execution of everybody who's religious would solve the problem almost entirely, although I doubt many would go for that haha :bat:

In-case that never happensUpside Down Happy(), then I think it all depends on how fast we can develop the scientific means in terms of knowledge to travel outwards into the universe, where we could even have colonies set up on various planets, it could be just like Doctor Who Happy

But given the universe's cycle of essentially destroying itself and reviving itself all over again, why not use up other planets for our own means? As long as we're not using them at a rate of 1 planet per person or something(lol), then I don't see why not. Would be a waste to just leave them there Winky Winky
