u cant just substitute a and b for 4, thats not the way to work it out.
i actually think its kinda a stupid sequence to say a=b and then go through the trouble of doing the rest of the equations. (hint: substitute all of the a's for b's, this makes it alot easier)
Anyway it would make sense if a=0, therefore because a=b, b would also be 0
the easiest way to look at it is 2a=a, the only possible answer for a there is 0 and it works in every other equation as well.
in saying that i'm assuming that all of those equations are linked with each other, i'd be interested to see if anyone else has a different answer

You divided by 0. (a+b)(a-b)= b(a-b) then you divided (a-b) on the next step. This is wrong because A and B are the same thing, so a-b=0, and you cannot divide by 0.

"(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)" - this line is correct however what you have effectively written is "infinity = infinity" which while true is entirely useless on a mathematical level as nothing can be mathematically done to infinity to reduce it to less than infinity, making everything from that point mathematically unsound.

I posted this for a reason, and to test the users of the forum. I saw this equation somewhere on the internet ( I can't remember where ) and there were people that were saying complete b*llshit so I thought what will the members of NGU say about that, personally I never thought there would be a solution found so fast. Not that I think NGU members are all retards, they are clever people.

I just tryed to make a thread where there could be some points of discussion..

I think the point is that members of NGU have way to much time on our hands When I say time, I really mean...

I think the main problem is this has been posted so many times before. I'm pretty sure I've seen threads like this in general discussion like 3 times. It still is nice to bring it up sometimes though.
