1. If XT = 12 and XZ = 21, then TZ = 9
When you subtract the total distance (XZ) from a partial distance (XT), you get the remaining distance of the line (TZ).
(XZ) - (XT) = (TZ)
21 - 12 = 9
2. ???
3. Suppose that T is the midpoint of segment XZ. If XT = 2x + 11 and XZ = 5x + 8, find the value of x.
2x + 11 = 5x + 8 (subtract 2x from both sides)
11 = 3x + 8 (subtract 8 from both sides)
3 = 3x (divide both sides by 3)
1 = x or x = 1
