Just so you know, your description says Charizard is a Water/Flying type. I'm pretty sure that's wrong.
But in terms of battle, for the first game, Bulbasaur would be your best choice. It's slow to level up, but it has a type advantage on more than one of the gym leaders.
Second game would be Totodile (hope I spelled that right.)
3rd gen, I have to agree with you, Swampert would be best, the only thing I dislike about it is its 4x weakness to grass.
4th gen, I can't really make a fair opinion. I never really paid attention to stat advantages in that game. (Ironically, it's been longer since I've played through gen 4 then through any other of the generations)
I played a bit of Black and White, but I couldn't get into it. I like the fact that they're going for a real story, but I dislike the fact that they introduced a fifth generation. They can still do so much with the other 496 pokemon they made. They don't need any more yet. They're starting to lose creativity when it comes to making new ones, too.
Sorry I was tired when I made this thread /facepalm
Anyways, yes Venasaur is good, but Charizard is great against the Elite Four. Not to mention the fact he is overpowered compared to the other fire types.
As for totodile, I never was a huge fan but he was pretty good, my second choice (I couldn't stand chicorita)
Swampert was just way overpowered in the game. Immune to electric (an attack most Pokemon can learn), was great. The grass was bad, but as long as you have a camerupt or torkoal you'll be set.
