Post: What Happens When You Sleep?
06-23-2011, 02:33 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I've always wondered how I can sleep for 8, 9, or even 10 hours without even "realizing" it. People will say you dream, well I've heard you dream like the last 10 minutes before you wake up, not all night. Can anyone help me here? It seems like you just wake up out of nowhere.

This should be put in general questions.

Sleeping is when your body begins to repair itself and also store memories that have been absorbed throughout the day. Dreams are used to help decide what is valued and what is not. You only remember a dream if you wake up in the middle of it.

What I've always wanted to know is what happens when you fall asleep..

Your laying there with your eyes closed, trying to go into your sleep state. Do you automatically fall asleep in a split second, or what?

Yes. First your consciousness falls into the dream state and then your body.

Dreaming is really fascinating to me. If you haven't heard of lucid dreams, look them up because they're incredible. You can train yourself to realize you're dreaming, and then do whatever you want. It's a little like the move Inception.

Actually, I thought it was more of a gradual process, with the brain going through certain "states" (theta, gamma, beta, etc, I'm not sure which ones apply to sleep though). Because there're multiple levels of sleep, too, like R.E.M. and the level you enter when your mind is preparing to awaken.

Also, some people can train their bodies to go into their sleep state before their minds, giving themselves "sleep paralysis." It's supposedly a way to easily enter a lucid dream.

It depends on what you mean by dreaming. Technically, the entire dream state includes non-REM sleep. I have tried lucid dreaming and OBE's before. The trick behind those is to trick your body into thinking you are already asleep.

LOL. Inception deals with entering other peoples dreams.

Depends on the set voltage to the electro helmet before you sleep. Otherwise transdimentional dwarves with electoprobes invade and screw with your brain, and electronics. Worse case scenario you transport to a Rush Limbaugh show where he is interviewing a drunken Dick Cheney. Happy

Ahem. During rest or sleep your brain initiates a set program to where it goes through separate stages. You dream much during this and time passes as usual, but to you it seems shorter. You must login or register to view this content. <-----Here be a link that describes it better. Good luck. Smile

Yes, and it also deals with them doing reality checks in their dreams to know whether or not they're dreaming. That's how you train yourself to lucid dream, you do reality checks while your awake and once you get into a habit you will do it in your dream and then realize your dreaming.
