From Proceedings. Frank Koch, The Magazine of the Naval Institute

Two battleships assigned to the training squadron had been at sea on maneuvers in heavy weather for several days.
I was serving on the lead battleship and was on watch on the bridge as night fell. The visibility was poor with patchy fog,
so the captain remained on the bridge keeping an eye on all activities.
Shortly after dark, the lookout on the wing of the bridge reported, "Light, bearing on the starboard bow."
"Is it steady or moving astern?" the captain called out. Lookout replied, "Steady, captain," which meant we were on a dangerous collision course with that ship.
The captain then called to the signalman, "Signal that ship: We are on a collision course, advise you change course 20 degrees."
Back came a signal, "Advisable for you to change course 20 degrees."
The captain said, "Send, I'm a captain, change course 20 degrees."
"I'm a seamen second class," came the reply. "You had better change course 20 degrees."
By that time, the captain was furious. He spat out, "Send, I'm a battleship. Change course 20 degrees."
Back came the flashing light, "I'm a lighthouse."
We changed course.

Paradigm shifts are very powerful. I know most of you will have read this and say, "I don't get it?" Well that's fine, you don't need to. I just wanted to share it and if anyone understands it, enjoy. Smile

Yes. But that's not the point. The point is that the Captain experienced a paradigm shift. His paradigm was that he is a Captain of a Battleship and that all other ships must abide by his orders. He failed to look at the situation with an open mind. Once he saw the situation under a different light, his attitude and principles changed. He experienced a paradigm shift.

Might be helpful to google what a "Paradigm" is. Awesome face

It's a very interesting concept that I'm studying right now. Well, at least it's the part of the book I'm reading right now for the studies. The point is about understanding the way you perceive things in order to better understand how to be an effective and successful person in society. The way you perceive things being a paradigm. The book is "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and it was assigned for me to read and study for a career assistance program I started. It's pretty god damned interesting, I suggest everyone pick it up and give it a go. Very enlightening.

Here is a link to amazon.com with the book.

Dude I learned all this stuff in my freshmen seminar class and to tell you the truth, it was boring as hell, but it is important to know this since it helps you realise that changing your views on a topic and seeing things on a differnet view helpes you grow as a person
