(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Guys, I was wondering if any of you guys have any tips on how to build upper body strength for a teen.

I am 14 years old (15 in october) about 6 foot tall im not fat I just want to try and build some upper body strength.

Obvious answers are push ups, pull ups (can not do in my house nothing to do it on), possibly sit ups?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you decide to purchase dumbbells and other weights, it is critical that you use the ideal weight for your ability/muscular development. Too little weight will result in very gradual development (if any takes place at all), while too much weight can result in injuries because of improper technique; especially when you are doing the standard bicep curls. Also...since you are a beginner, I will emphasize that there is NO reason behind to feel humiliated if you cannot lift a certain amount of weight. Everybody was in your position at one point. Technique is incredibly important, you want to make sure that you are able to perform the exercise accurately and consistently. Do it right, or don't do it at all. You are making a smart decision at your current age, and finding an encouraging and positive work-out partner would be another wise step towards increasing upper body strength.

I've been working out for a few years now, and I began began weight-lifting around the age of 16. If you need any answers to questions, feel free to consult me.

Do different type of pushups if you got no equipment, such as incline and decline push ups as well as push up jacks, etc.

my tip for you is to go out for a sport that uses a lot of that, like football, wrestling, and swimming(hard as hell since u swim laps and it kills) if ur skool is like my skool they'll have a weight room for u to build muscle, make sure to go at least 4 times a week and having someone to lift with makes it funner and they give you confidence.

No text books, I might just ask to buy some weights, like hand ones. I know im not a strong person but my right arm is a lot better then my left and if they are un even it is really weird, I know since you use one all the time one will be a big stronger but i want to try build muscle.

Your not the only one my RIGHT hand is Stronger than my Left one, sometimes when im bored i do push-ups :p

Don't be afraid to ask your parents. There is nothing to be ebarassed about =D Trust me, get some weights, adjustible bench, straight bar, curl bar and just work out 2-4 times a week. You feel better mentally and phisically. If you want to build some strength then put your legs on a couch and hold your self up in a pushup position as long as possible. If that's too easy then try doing pushups while doing that.
