hmmmm, "more than just picture buddies"= no. It's sweet but will make you look like a "dork". The way I asked my girl out is I go up to her and ask her if I can speak to her alone so she doesn't feel pressured by her friends. Then I look her in the eyes and tell her how I fell and ask her if she would be interested in going out with me.

I'm trying to ask her to prom, not have her think I'm a retard

Dude trust me it will probably work but really the key to a yes is confidence. Women can sense when you are not confident in yourself and they find it a major let down. Even tho you might not feel confident try to act it.

Best way to get with her is find what type of girl is quiet, social, greedy, cocky, horny maybe, once you've found out find the best way to ask her

If you two are close and you think she will definitely say yes, then just go casual, don't make a huge deal out of asking her just take it as it is. Ask her in which ever way you are comfortable with. However is you think she has other options and is perhaps of "higher value", then ask as if it is no big deal, as if you have many options but you asked her because you like her but not as if she is your only choice.
