In about 5 billion years, the sun will go into the Red Giant phase, and will most likely vaporize the earth. Nuclear war won't destroy the earth itself.

Well actualy once the sun does enter the red giant phase it will loose its gravitational pull, not all of it of course but enought for the earth to safetly float away where other hazards lie in wait. Of course there s a 50/50 chance of that happening or what elf said. Then theres earth colliding into another planet. Oh what fun. No matter we will all be dead by that time anyways due to our stupidity.

yes, its density will decrease due to the monumental increase in volume, but even if the earth isn't completely engulfed, the oceans will be boiled away and the heat and radiation will kill virtually everything.

Yeah well that will happen way before the sun becomes a red giant. Still were pretty screwed unless we get the whole space travel thing down, you know, if we haven't blown each other up yet for stupid reasons.

It would suck to be the last humans alive, knowing death is coming.
