(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This has truly been a memorable year, in terms of video-gaming, books, movies and real life events, and with only one month left, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread about why 2011 is such a year, I think all of us are lucky to participate in. If I am missing any, please feel free to post them.

1) May 1 – U.S. President Barack Obama announces that Osama bin Laden, the founder and leader of the militant group Al-Qaeda, has been killed during an American military operation in Pakistan.

2) October 20 - Arab Spring and the Libyan civil war: Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is killed in Sirte, with National Transitional Council forces taking control of the city, and ending the war.

3) July 22 – 76 people are killed in twin terrorist attacks in Norway after a bombing in the Regjeringskvartalet (the government center in Oslo) and a shooting at a political youth camp in the island of Utøya.

4) 2010 - 2011 A series of floods hit Australia, beginning in December 2010, primarily in the state of Queensland including its capital city, Brisbane. The floods forced the evacuation of thousands of people from towns and cities.[2] At least seventy towns and over 200,000 people were affected. Damage initially was estimated at around A$1 billion. The estimated reduction in Australia's GDP is about A$30 billion.

5) February 11 – Arab Spring: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigns after widespread protests calling for his departure, leaving control of Egypt in the hands of the military until a general election can be held.

6) July 21 – Space Shuttle Atlantis lands successfully at Kennedy Space Center after completing STS-135, concluding NASA's space shuttle program.

7) New Zealand wins the rugby world cup 2011.

8] The February 2011 Christchurch earthquake was a magnitude 6.3 (ML) earthquake that struck the Canterbury region in New Zealand's South Island at 12:51 pm on Tuesday, 22 February 2011 local time (23:51 21 February UTC), The earthquake was centred 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) west of the town of Lyttelton, and 10 kilometres (6 mi) south-east of the centre of Christchurch, New Zealand's second-most populous city. It followed nearly six months after the magnitude 7.1 4 September 2010 Canterbury earthquake, which caused significant damage to Christchurch and the central Canterbury region, but no direct fatalities.

9) August 5 - NASA announces that its Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured photographic evidence of possible liquid water on Mars during warm seasons.

10) March 11 – A 9.1-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit the east of Japan, killing 15,822 and leaving another 3,926 missing. Tsunami warnings are issued in 50 countries and territories. Emergencies are declared at four nuclear power plants affected by the quake

1) PlayStation turns 15

2) The Playstation network is hacked and was down for around 1 month.

3) Halo 4 was announced at E3 2011 in the Microsoft convention.



4) The Next Generation Portable, later renamed PS Vita, was also announced at E3 2011.



5) Modern Warfare 3 was announced early of 2011. The first video trailer gaining over 20 million views.



6) Battlefield 3 was announced as well. Another highly anticipated shooter.



7) Uncharted 3 was released, one of the PS3's greatest ever made exclusives.



8] Skyrim, one of the best ever RPG's to date.



9) Batman: Arkham City, also released, highly anticipated after Arkham Asylum was another great game.



10) Grand Theft Auto V is announced.

As I said before, I probably missed out quite a lot, if I did, please post them below, and share this thread around, 2011 is to me one of the fastest years that has gone by. As for my personal life in it, I actually just graduated from High School, I started back in 2006.
