Seeing as NGU is involved in this movement (like me), I wanted to make sure that everybody understood what this "censorship" thing is al about.

What is SOPA? Why is it important?
SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) has been proposed by the US government in october 2011, its objective is to help fight copyright infragment material. (**Basically you wont be able to download your favorite movies,tv shows, music, FACEBOOk,TWITTER,etc) You might bbe worndering why would facebook, twitter, any website to stream online movies etc be blocked. Its simple, if SOPA gets approved it would have a very hard time to control these websites from spreading the copyright material so they will ahve to be shut down.SOmething i want to make very clear is that not only will it stop the copyright infragment but it will also stop freedom of speech For example, lets say that a reporter uploads important news to youtube it will be blocked, or even worse if he writes his news in a blog and links it youtube or a website that SOPA doesnt approved that website will be blocked as well.
Whats bad about illegal downloads being stopped?
Im not going to take sides here, this is personal opinion. I believe that every author deserves money for their hard work. But also there is people that simply dont have the access to certain programs other people have. SO the only way they can get them is by downloading them illegally.
 Im not in america WHY SHOULD I CARE?
It will affect you not directly exactly. However most sites have an american DOMAIN that will still stop you froma ccesing it even tho you are not in america.
"HA! I will just use VPN :mask:
Sorry to break it to you, but what gets blocked is the website so using VPN wont make a difference
How can i acces them if this does happen? HOW CAN I STOP IT?
The only way that occurs to me (please share if you have any other ideas) is by ip adress.
How can you stop it. The only real way is by supporting all the people against it
Two websites that help prevent this awful law from beign approved
VICTORY! Because of immense public pressure, the House Judiciary Committee cancelled their vote on the bill that would kill Internet innovation and free speech — and adjourned for the rest of the year!
The Internet fought back to protect the Internet — and we won, for now. We have to assemble our Internet army for next year, when this bill will come up again.
That's unconstitutional. Basically, they can imprison anyone they deem a threat without a trial.
the one thing i'd say is thats completely different. it involves the army, which means that people are less likely to speak up against it as the army would be used as intimidation. whereas, if the law includes something un-constatutional and people don't feel intimidated, then, they can make a case to the supreme court, who can, in turn, remove laws.
those of you who have studied history, know of the black peoples civil rights movement. where the NAACP argued that black people were not treated fairly and were not regarded as equal and that was un-constatutional. because of this, laws were made and black people were integrated into american civilsation.
This is a similar thing, so could maybe be dealt with in the same way?

You know the more shit that happens like this the more I start to wonder if a certain upcoming day in the future is true!
I mean claim someone was pirating something (reason to arrest) then claim they are a threat to this nation (no trial).
Sounds to me like the government has some kind of plan for the future. I always figured the next civil war would use torrent'sites or mediafire to pass information along.
Edit: I forgot to mention that by blocking websites, we will have to take certain routes to get to those things we seek. And those routes could potentially be monitored by the all-seeing eye.
I suppose I may be asking a bit much, but consider this: if you are too lazy or unmotivated to read this, and learn what this bill actually proposes, why should I consider your views? They're obviously insincere if you won't take the time to learn exactly what your views are.
The following user thanked Booshykins for this useful post:
What people don't seem to understand is that most of these regulations are already in place. It is pretty much just putting stricter regulations on top of pre-existing laws. Piracy causes software developers, musicians, and many other people to lose a lot of money. Piracy is the theft of intellectual property, which is just as unethical as stealing tangible property.
Ex:
DMCA - Anti-Piracy portion of SOPA
The First Amendment protects Freedom of Speech, HOWEVER, obscenity is not protected. - Censorship portion of SOPA
