St. Francis of Assisi is the Catholic patron saint of animals, having started his career early in the parish upon befriending a promising Pedobear. As St. Francis grew up, Pedobear decided that there was no more he could “teach” him. Thus Francis went off to start a Catholic orphanage, following the practices of his predecessor. In a few years time controversy erupted about the legitimacy of Francis’ application as observed by Pope Innocent III (ironic, isn’t it?) so he was placed, by direct order of the diocese, to be a priest of the renown Santa Maria degli Angeli.
After he restored the church from certain ruination the introduction of altar boys sparked an inner fire in him, and Francis went on to start the Franciscan Order. The order was first meant to be an explicit cult, but after Francis’ death his teachings lived on and soon the Franciscan Order started up a chain of children’s hospitals, carrying on his legacy long after his death.
In modern times, hospitals devoted to St. Francis treat both children and adults – but his credence will never be forgotten.
