Actor William Sadler is also confirmed for a role in Iron Man 3, however it has yet to be announced who his character will be.

if robert downey jr is not tony stark, i don't care if you pay for me to go to the movies i will not see iron man 3. for me robert downey jr is and always be the best 20th century iron man. besides from the original iron man.

I agree Robert Downey jr fits the role of Tony Stark perfectly, mostly because he is an asshole in real life so he's not even acting.

Yeah I kinda prefered the first one too, I never liked that they Re-cast Rhodey as Don Cheadle, and it was the aspect that Iron Man was actually trying to save the world from real life threats such as terrorism. The first one seemed to be more 'realistic' that's what made it so great, but the second one spiralled out of control a bit with Mickey Rourke and the less focus on 'real world problems', but then again it IS a Comic Book Movie. ^^

I really liked the first ones so hopefully this will be great too.

I saw the Captain America-Iron Man picture somewhere else, but I totally thought that it was a photoshopped-for-fun image

Which had the pacing all wrong

Iron Man 2 was out of pace, I agree. I never really understood the origin of Micky Rourkes character much, plus the entire movie was this:
-Get Rhodey replaced with a black guy
-Get an American acting as a Russian with electrical whips
-Keep it as more of a comic fantasy that an action-adventure
-Spend the entirety of the rest of the movie getting Rhodey a black iron suit and iron man the new triangular chested suit.
-Set it up for the Avengers.

That's basically it, but seeng as the Avengers no longer needs to be hyped with other Marvel movies, maybe Iron Man 3 can be the first stand-alone blockbuster -- especially with the new director, you are right, this could be a re-boot of sorts.
