(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I need some good artists to listen to when it comes to hip-hop and rap, and I know NGU has some good people in mind. Smile

Here's mine, his name is SwizZz and he's signed by Funk Volume:

Edgier than an octagon
Nas all the way! If you haven't heard Illmatic then you're missing out bigtime.

^Nothing like a song with fat brutal verses. One of my all-time favorites for sure.

I like SwizZz, he has some good songs with Hopsin but his voice is so annoying. I thought he was a girl the first time I heard him rap, seriously.

I also like me some Eminem, Jedi Mind Tricks and Jay-Z (his first album is solid).

Funk Volume are awesome, especially Hopsin.
Can't believe no one has said Big L yet.

Also Wu-Tang Clan are fucking great

There are others like KRS-1 and Mos Def and many more that I can't be bothered to list. Low Key posted the Fugees which are also great.

Surprised (and glad) to see plenty of users with a good sense of judgment when it comes to this genre. I was expecting users to post more mainstream artists, but *thankfully* I was mistaken. As a big rap buff myself, I'd recommend newcomers to the genre to explore the roots of hip-hop- from classic artists like Rakim and Big L, to more modern classics such as Nas, RZA, Big Pun, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Ice Cube, NWA, and Biggie Smalls. If you want to explore the underground realm of hip-hop, I would strongly urge you to explore artists like Vinnie Paz, Immortal Technique, MF Doom, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, and Canibus. I just named a few artists that initially came to mind, though if you're interested I can list quite a few more. As for albums...I'd say start with classic hits like Illmatic (Nas), Me Against The World (Tupac), and Paid in Full (Eric B. and Rakim). If you want to explore some excellent instrumental talent, I'd start with Madlib.
