I never thought about those things. When people say video games are bad for you I just tell them this. When I play a game I am being a lot more productive than you are when you watch T.V. which requires very little thought.
Games are a lot more helpful than watching tv for sure.
I've always been better at doing homework after playing video games which sounds weird but that's how it works for me. I can definitely see how people playing a lot of action games can make sense of messes easily and can have a better eye for detail. You learn to keep an eye out for details when playing shooters because you need to keep track of enemies but at the same time make sure you can spot objectives. The button combos for complex control games like Street fighter may help improve memory. Like the post says overplaying games especially sitting down isn't very good either.
