I was watching a swimming event and heard the announcer say "Lochte is the best male swimmer at the olympics" all because beat Phelps ONE time. Lochte only has one gold medal, and Phelps has 15. He won 2 golds so far....yet Lochte still the best :dumb: anyways, whats your thought.

Both have not been doing great tbh but I am still a Phelps fan

The only reason Michael Phelps lost the 400 IM was because he didn't prepare for it until 9 months before the Olympics, compared to everybody else training 4 years. Talent can get you only so far, you need to train as well. He was under the assumption that he wouldn't swim in that event anymore, then his coach decided that he should still try it out since he's still great at it. Look Michael Phelps has gone 8/8 and he still holds the WR for the 400 IM. Lockte has gotten a gold and silver and 4th place. He's nowhere near as good as Phelps. I also despise the media, once you've lost all you did in the past was for NOTHING. You can't expect Phelps to be in great shape all of his life. Also he needs 2 more medals to be the most decorated Olympian of all time; meaning having the most medals. I've only been watching swimming lol... So to OP I choose Phelps ^^ Not hating on Lochte; GO USA, but I'm a fan of Phelps!

It depends completely, if we are talking this olympics so far, then yes Lochte is better. At the moment. Essentially whoever has the most medals is the best, because clearly they are more successful at their sport. Therefore overall as an athlete id have to say phelps. But so far, Lochte at this olympics.

though as mentioned, phelps hasnttrained for the 400 IM,
and lochte lost as anchor for the 200 relay.... and that was just such a let down
lochte is actually really 1 for 1,
because US was ahead in the relay against france.
but his fail clutch got them the silver.
