I'm going to go 'old school' on this: Metroid and Super Metroid on the 'ol Nintendo systems: challenging play, awesome side-scrolling graphics (for its day) and the first(AFAIK) female action hero [The princess in Mario Bros. doesn't count - she was passive].

There are a lot of good games, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Crysis, Uncharted, Jak and Daxter, Sly and many more.. Smile
