With gaming on the Android platform becoming more and more popular (take the overwhelming popularity of the Ouya device), it comes as no surprise that Archos today announced a tablet specifically built for gaming.

The Archos Gamepad as it is aptly named is a tablet that makes it much easier to play the latest Android games on your tablet thanks to the physical controls that surround the screen. It boasts dual analog sticks, a D-Pad, 4 selection buttons and even Start and Select buttons.

Even more impressive is the hardware inside the Gamepad. The Gamepad is powered by a dual core 1.5GHZ CPU, and has a dedicated Mali 400MP Quad Core GPU, so it should be more than capable of running anything you can possibly throw at it. It has a 7" screen too, which if it turns out to be of decent quality should provide more than ample visuals. As I mentioned above, it also runs Android as an OS so you'll be able to do all the things you'd normally do on a tablet aswell.

The pricepoint is the most impressive thing about this device though. Currently, Archos believe it will go on sale in late October for the small sum of $188. The simarlarly spec'd Nexus 7 is currently around $250 (though the full specifications for the device are unknown) so if that turns to be true it should be a real competitor to the big guns on release.

What do you think? A pointless addition to the already saturated Android Tablet market, or a 'game' changer?
