How do they do it and not get caught?

It's a question i've had over some time now, and i would like to know how, if anybody knows.

There's plenty of ways you can make yourself anonymous on the internet. Obviously, fake details are used for creating accounts but then you can use proxies, VPNs, VPSs etc. If you're thinking about piracy, most file hosting websites don't store IP addresses, making it almost impossible to track them.

Another thing that lots of people do is encrypt their storage, making it impossible for the authorities to charge someone for whatever cyber crime they've committed. You also hear stories about people putting thermite over their hard drive bays ready to melt their hard drives and people having massive magnets ready to glide over their case to destroy their hard drives, in case authorities knock on the door.

Best ways include using socks and probably the best method is using a VPN (Virtual Private Network). A VPN resembles a legitimate network but it basically hides your network and you use another one and thus changing hiding your IP address.
