Post: Sexism: a two-way street.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The purpose of this thread is to discuss sexism. This can be both women's rights and men's rights. The example I've provided is an advocation of the latter, as I think typically these discussions tend to center too much on the former.

Domestic violence. This is something that goes both ways, but it seems that the societal perception is that it does not. Here's an interesting survey, make of it what you will. You must login or register to view this content.

This also leads into the issues of sexual assault and the all-encompassing issue of gender stereotypes.

There are tons of issues on both sides of the fence, so comment on whatever you feel most enthusiastic or incensed about.

I have a strong belief that both genders are trapped within their own ideologies;women have to be beautiful and men have to be "masculine".

What beauty is to a man is the women's physical appearance and if they aren't up to those standards than they will be criticized and possibly humiliated (cause for bullying). Even though women have more freedom than their grandmothers, they still don't feel free. A cause for this can be from advertisements from business to keep on producing more revenue from their products or services (makeup, plastic surgery, etc) and men who have created this image of a women from paintings, sculptures, posters and pictures throughout history.

The same is for men because if they aren't this careless, stupid yet muscular being than they will also be criticized and humiliated. A possibe cause for this stereotype would be from the veterans from WWII who were trained to be strong fighters and passed these characteristics to their children for the most recent masculine trend.

This from an American perspective but I'm not sure how it is in other foreign countries.
