(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok so I got a take home quiz and I really suck at these problems... Also, when you post the answer can you post some pre steps since she wants a little bit of work. Thanks.

9. If the quotient of a number and 6 is added to twice the number, the result is 8 less than the number. Find the number.

10. When 75% of a number is added to 6, the result is 3 more than the number. Find the number.

For Question 9:

Let us use X as the number we have to find.

The information shows: X/6 + 2X = X-8
Add 8 to both sides to make X by itself: X = X/6 + 2X + 8
Times all by 6 to eliminate the fraction: 6X = X + 12X + 48
The X and 12X add together: 6X = 13X + 48
Take 6X from both sides and take 48 from both sides: 7X = -48
X = -6.857

For Question 10:

So far the information shows: 0.75X + 6 = X + 3
Take 3 from both sides: 0.75X + 3 = X
Take 0.75X from both sides: 3 = 0.25X
Times both sides by 4: 12 = X

For this step that you said "Take 6X from both sides and take 48 from both sides: 7X = -48" Couldn't just take 13 and subtract it by 6 which gives you -7x=48 then divide so the answer would be -.15 or is your way right?

It is the exact same, if you take 13X from '6X = 13X + 48' you will get -7X = 48 which is the same as what I said. Is that what you mean?

Yea and thanks lol. This college math is getting to my head... I'm trying to do this problem with fractions

2x-3 + 3= =-X/3 In simpler writing 2x-3 all over 7 + 3/7= -X/3 if my line messes you up.
_______
7 7

Its something about where you find the LCD then multiply each of them but I'm having trouble since if I multiply the last part by 7 I get -7/3x and 2x-3+3=-7/3x doesn't make any sense.
