Post: So I got my first Detention today...

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Like the title says. Its my first one. Here's the kicker, I didn't do anything. (Yea most of you are thinking okay he thinks he didn't but he did) Let me explain. (BTW I'm a sophomore in HS) Last class of the day. Chemistry I. The teacher is in her late 40s or early 50s. She doesn't really have any tolerance for goofing off in class, but if you stay on her good side, she is nice. So today some kids were making a sound at the beginning of class. Kinda like a "whoooooop" sound. She asked them to stop. They didn't. She kept telling them to stop, they still didn't. (She hasn't been looking this whole time so she doesn't know exactly which student is making the noise, and neither do i) Finally she told us "If I hear that sound one more time, I'm writing the whole class detentions." And as soon as she turned her back, "whooooop!". So she whipped out her detention pad and gave a detention to every student in the class, including me. The only mark on it other than my name is the "disrespect" reason for detention. I'm pissed. I went to the principal after school to ask him if she can do that. He told me we could talk tomorrow during my lunch hour.

My question out of all of this is, do you think she has the right to do that? Obviously she is the teacher and is empowered to write detentions, but to punish a whole class for one or two students' ignorance and blatant disrespect. Personally its a good threat to use against students, but I've never seen a teacher carry it out. Nor do I think it should be done. I fully believe it is wrong to punish the innocent. Worst of all, It is a catholic school. We are taught to protect the innocent, not persecute them. She is a catholic teacher as well, which just further backs my point. So, your thoughts?

I had a similar issue in H.S. my junior year. The class made up of maybe 25-28 students ( it was a large class ) but, the teacher always had a student teaching aide.

I don't recall exactly what happened but, she attempted to give the whole class detention. Some classmates went down to the principal who said " that under the circumstances she had a right to and that if she was willing to stay after to watch that many students then she could". Under normal circumstances students either served detention in the classroom or office ( it was up to the person writing the detention ).

I told some friends to tell everyone else to skip the detention ( grounds for in-school suspension * you sit in a empty room with cubicles in the office all day long* ) and everyone did. Long story short the school didn't have enough room for us all.

*************************************************
tl;dr - Entire class got detention, everyone skipped ( should have got ISS ), school didn't have enough room and let it all slide. A week later a couple friends and I were called down to the office and told that knew we were behind it and that next time the would break down the ISS's over a period of a month if that is what it took to have every student serve their time.

No. I'm pissed off because I got a detention for something I didn't do. If I had actually gotten caught doing something wrong, I would own up to it and accept the consequences. I can't stand being accused of doing something I didn't do.

Lol. Our school doesn't consider ISS until you skip 3 or 4 in a row. If you skip one, they just slap you with another detention so now you have to serve 2.

Today Will Be Different
Shhhiiiiieeeeeetttttt Tyrone you got your first detention? It isn't a big deal to be honest. I only went to like two of the hundreds I got because some of my friends were there. And majority of the time they honestly don't care if you do not show up unless your school is uptight about disciplinary things.

Worst thing that could possibly happen is if your school has a closed campus for lunch and you leave and the SRO gives you a non-moving violation when you get back.

I wouldn't mind serving a detention for something I did, but I'm not about to serve a detention b/c someone doesn't know how to stfu.

Anyways I don't have to serve it. The principal received complaints from both students and parents alike so he nullified the detentions. Life is good again.

Tranquility.
It's not hard to talk your way out of detentions anyways. I've done it a few times. All you need to do is blow smoke out your ass and tell the teacher what he/she wants to here.
