Like the title says. Its my first one. Here's the kicker, I didn't do anything. (Yea most of you are thinking okay he thinks he didn't but he did) Let me explain. (BTW I'm a sophomore in HS) Last class of the day. Chemistry I. The teacher is in her late 40s or early 50s. She doesn't really have any tolerance for goofing off in class, but if you stay on her good side, she is nice. So today some kids were making a sound at the beginning of class. Kinda like a "whoooooop" sound. She asked them to stop. They didn't. She kept telling them to stop, they still didn't. (She hasn't been looking this whole time so she doesn't know exactly which student is making the noise, and neither do i) Finally she told us "If I hear that sound one more time, I'm writing the whole class detentions." And as soon as she turned her back, "whooooop!". So she whipped out her detention pad and gave a detention to every student in the class, including me. The only mark on it other than my name is the "disrespect" reason for detention. I'm pissed. I went to the principal after school to ask him if she can do that. He told me we could talk tomorrow during my lunch hour.
My question out of all of this is, do you think she has the right to do that? Obviously she is the teacher and is empowered to write detentions, but to punish a whole class for one or two students' ignorance and blatant disrespect. Personally its a good threat to use against students, but I've never seen a teacher carry it out. Nor do I think it should be done. I fully believe it is wrong to punish the innocent. Worst of all, It is a catholic school. We are taught to protect the innocent, not persecute them. She is a catholic teacher as well, which just further backs my point. So, your thoughts?
I had a similar issue in H.S. my junior year. The class made up of maybe 25-28 students ( it was a large class ) but, the teacher always had a student teaching aide.
I don't recall exactly what happened but, she attempted to give the whole class detention. Some classmates went down to the principal who said " that under the circumstances she had a right to and that if she was willing to stay after to watch that many students then she could". Under normal circumstances students either served detention in the classroom or office ( it was up to the person writing the detention ).
I told some friends to tell everyone else to skip the detention ( grounds for in-school suspension * you sit in a empty room with cubicles in the office all day long* ) and everyone did. Long story short the school didn't have enough room for us all.

tl;dr - Entire class got detention, everyone skipped ( should have got ISS ), school didn't have enough room and let it all slide. A week later a couple friends and I were called down to the office and told that knew we were behind it and that next time the would break down the ISS's over a period of a month if that is what it took to have every student serve their time.
