I'm pretty excited for the launch of the UFL scheduled to have its first kick off October 8th, 2009 6pm PST (9pm EST) on versus. Kinda bummed that it will be on versus as I have DirecTv and they won't meet the demands of comcast so DirecTv currently doesn't have versus.
Anyway, out of any other football league that started, I feel that the UFL is set-up for success. The higher up executives have great experience in the NFL.
Another thing that has me excited about this league is the talent level of both the coaches and the players. I'll break it down by teams.
California Redwoods
Head Coach
Dennis Green
Notables: 113-94 in 13 years coaching in the NFL. Led Vikings to 15-1 record and held record for most points scored in a season which has since been broken by the 2007 Patriots. Also, he pretty much assembled the Cardinals that made the run to the superbowl last year.
Notable Players
BJ Sams WR - While not known in the NFL as a reciever Sams had a fairly good career returning punts.
Mike McMahon QB - McMahon was a career back-up in the NFL. He had some decent career starts in the NFL.
Orlando Huff LB - 277 tackles 3 sacks and 1 safety in his 6 year NFL career.
Derrick Frost P - A very serviceable punter in the NFL
Obafemi Ayanbadejo RB - Career rushing totals of 123 carries, 413 yards (3.4 avg.) and 5 touchdowns. Receiving career totals of 130 catches, 885 yards (6.8 avg), and 3 touchdowns and over 120 special teams tackles in his career.
I probably missed some but these are some names I recognized looking over their roster.
Las Vegas Locomotives
Head Coach
Jim Fassel
Notables: 58-53 career coaching. Led Giants to playoffs 3 times and led them to a Super Bowl in 2000.
Notable Players
Az-Zahir Hakim WR - A decent WR in the NFL and a good kick/punt returner.
JP Losman QB - A fairly good QB in the NFL.
Samie Parker WR - A fairly good WR in the NFL.
Tim Rattay QB - Passing for 4,853 yards and 31 touchdowns in 40 career games.
New York Sentinels
Head Coach
Ted Cottrell
Notables: He was a mastermind of some good defenses in the NFL.
Notable Players
Quinn Gray QB - Completing 108 passes for 1326 yards and 13 touchdowns in 12 career games.
Simeon Rice DE - Second fastest player in NFL history to hit 100 sacks.
Koren Robinson WR- An above average NFL WR could have been a lot more then that but he couldn't keep himself out of trouble.
Florida Tuskers
Head Coach
Jim Haslett
Notables: 47-61 as head coach. Led Saints to playoffs in 2000.
Notable Players
Tatum Bell RB - Had a fairly decent career rushing in the NFL.
Doug Gabriel WR - Put up some good numbers receiving in the NFL.
Dexter Jackson S - Superbowl MVP for the Buccaneers, had a good career in the NFL.
Todd Sauerbrun P - Was a serviceable punter in the NFL.
Odell Thurman LB - Had a promising career in the NFL until he derailed it with substance abuse problems.
These are all names that I recognized but tons of these players playing in the UFL have spent time playing and on a NFL team.
Team Venues
Another thing I like about the UFL is the stadiums they will be hosting their games in are excellent. These stadiums are top notch and some major league sports team have or still do play in these stadiums.

Clicking on the links takes you to a small overview of each stadium. They play in awesome stadiums, which is a plus. What I like is the ticket prices. I'll use an example say your a New York sports fan, so you root for the Sentinels, lets say you have a son and want to take him to East Rutherford to see a game in Giant Stadium and wanted to have seats at the 50 yard line, it would cost roughly $142 per person if you take him to a Giants or Jets game, which the average person really can't afford. While you could take your son to watch Sentinels play and pay $84 for both of you in the same stadium. Now sure their is a step down in athletes. You will get to watch good football, and some players out there who will make it on to an NFL team if they have a success in the UFL.
I'll probably root for the Tuskers, like the uniforms, until they expand and make a team in Philly.
I'll update this again later.
