The baby announced to have been cured of HIV last week now has some adult company - a new study has announced that 14 adults have been "functionally cured" of HIV after being treated with combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) swiftly after infection.

This sickens me. I'm okay about babies being cured and people born with HIV being cured, but we should focus on curing something that isn't a result of pure irresponsibility, like cancer.

The following 5 users groaned at BAMF for this awful post:

I don't agree what so ever, thats like saying if a person gets shot and it was the result of his actions he should get no treatment, on one point I can see that but just cause it was their fault doesn't mean they shouldn't be cured. I mean I agree if I had a choice obviously cure cancer over HIV but I mean it's not like all these cancer specialists just dropped their shit to work on HIV, it's not like people stopped working on Cancer to cure this.

A woman/man gets raped by someone with Aids/HIV and develops HIV......

Sometimes contracting HIV isn't the result of "pure irresponsibility"

Certain cancers can be brought on due to "pure irresponsibility" like skin cancer and lung cancer, not all cases of course but I'd say most cases of them 2 cancers are due to sun beds/the sun and smoking

There are people in this world who are basically evil. I used to know someone who said if they ever caught anything, they wouldn't get tested and they would spread it... I told them they deserved to be killed by a firing squad.. People are fucked up!!

Its not fully cured, they've reduced the disease significantly, its still in their system and could spread again.
Whilst it is a positive step forward, there is still a long way to go before there is a definite cure.

You have to learn to walk, before you can run.

But yeah, this is great news even if it's not fully cured, everything has to start somewhere.

Not fully cured more in being controlled by the body naturally defences. Traces of the disease within the system but so tiny it does not have any effects. What is amazing is how treating at an early stage has slowed and reserved it. We don't know yet but they may be part of the 1% group who is resistant to this or the body can counter it when treated with drugs at an early stage.
Big step forward but not a full on simple cure as the headline tells you.
