Google has released the tech specs for its Google Glasses after shipping its first batch to developers today. So without further ado, here's what you need to know

  • The glasses contain a five megapixel camera for photos but films in 720p.

  • They contain 12 GB of usable memory which is synced with Google cloud storage and contains 16 GB of flash memory in total.

  • The glasses are supported by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but surprisingly not by 3G, which may be a drawback in the short term.

  • The glasses are compatible with any Bluetooth supported phone; the MyGlass companion app, however -- which enables GPS and SMS messaging -- requires Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to work

  • The battery should last about a day during "typical use" however features like Google Hangouts and video recording will drain the battery more quickly.

  • The list of specs are missing one crucial thing: a price. Just imagine a number that is more than you can afford. You're probably not far off.

  • However, before you start saving up, you might still have some time on your hands before you can buy a pair of Google Glass. No official word as to their public availability as yet but if the speculation is correct, the specs are expected to be released to the public in about a year.

I stopped reading at no 3G...

Without that it is rendered a useless gimmick, I hope it's just in the dev models.

Hmm underwhelming to say the least, I was hoping for more. I do think the way they deliver sound to your ear is impressive but that's about it. Though with these glasses privacy is going to die.

I just think it's hilarious how simple they are. Honestly the whole augmented reality with glasses doesn't surprise me, hell there used to be this toy on the market a long time ago that you could send messages to people who have the matching set, but the message would appear above/near the right eye. Which you can kinda tell Google copied.

No 3G, uses old technology as a concept, and tries to make it sound like it's going to be the first of its kind. But in reality it's a borrowed idea, but with more features because the technology is 1000x more advanced than it was fifteen years ago. I don't think it would cost all that much to purchase, no more than new smartphones. And if it is Google is just a rip off.

In Flames Much?
Reason for no 3G is due to the fact it meant to pair with your phone. So your phone is your wifi that how I taken it so far. Reason is reduce overall unit price and battery life to last longer. It would also add to the weight on top.
Think the most intersting thing so far is bone conduction transducer for audio. Which is a simple technolgoy, uses your body own bones to help you hear the sound.
Saves on weight, not sure how good it would be for busy areas it should provide some great sound.

It would be much better if google plans to roll out it fiber network across the US along with giving users free access to hotspots if they own a glass. That is dreaming it would create a crisis for most US ISP's if google did that and charged far less.
