We wanted to do a thread that showed some of the history on the site over the last 5 years.
The site was started on May 4th 2008 by Travis Kohn (Outsider) who was an Admin on another site at the time.
He and a friend Coltz_One registered the site on the 4th and worked on it for a week, getting it ready for public membership on the 11th of May. Console online gaming was getting big and people were all looking online for the lastest "glitches"
Travis had many YT videos of the latest COD glitches on Modern Warfare and a big following from another site and online followers.

1st 3 days 329 members, 325 thread 2669 posts, It's funny to see Outside and Coltz having a Blue Mod color and Crickhead ( our 1st chosen Admin ) in a red color, and Aces and Oc Log are still active today..
Within 1 month we had 2,485 members, 1766 threads, 2669 posts an increase of 86.7%
Within 2 months (the month I joined) we had 6126 members, 3981 threads, 14,060 posts a 59.4% increase from the previous month.
By Month 3 we had 9055 members, 6056 threads, 46,078 posts a 32.3% increase.
(when I can get an Admin to give it to me, there was a thread the 1st month in the admin section on expected site growth over the 1st 6 months and beyond, it was very interesting to see the original founders plans for the site.)
Call of Duty Modern Warfare was the rage and console online FPS games really took off.
By August Outsider had completely left his old Site (they were ready to force him out for all of the members he was taking at that point) NextGenBoards was the site that he left and it is still open today. After 1 yr there were 65,832 members, 38,606 threads,310,926 posts with 65K new members. You can see that we had set up moderator groups and started with premium memberships. 2009 saw the creation of Minecraft, W@W had been out for 6 months and MW2 was released in November. We were still in the "Glitching days" And Outie was a master Glitcher..
In May 2010 ,our 2nd year, The site grew another 143K members: Here is a snap of the site in May 2010: You must login or register to view this content. you can see that we had 208,969 members,(NGB has 176K members today :p) 128,508 threads, 1,005,446 posts a 68.4% increase from the previous year. We added sectional moderator and reporters to staff, MW2 had been out for 6 months and mid yr 2010 saw the start of the "hacking" of video consoles and the end of the Glitching days. We saw a massive increase in membership over the next year as everyone came to NGU to find a CL Lobby "CL plz" became a mods nightmare :p COD BO came out this year as well as BF Bad Company 2
In May of 2011 we had grown another 339K members, our single biggest year of growth to date, also known as Leech Year.

We had 548,784 members, 381,482 threads, 3,253,283 posts; We had the site revolt in March of that year and NGU went through a lot of changes, with new VB, poker system, and a lot of staff changes.
May of 2012 saw another 200K join the site, Here is a snap of May 2012: You must login or register to view this content.
We had 749,398 members, 508,029 threads, 4,051,927 posts : NGU had settled in by now and saw many improvements to the site that year. The Homepage was finally released, Rep value was revamped, Likes were introduced as well as the Elite member system. Travis got much more involved with the site and started working hard to add improvements and get the site more attractive to new members. News became a big part of the site and its homepage appeal.
So here WE are May 4th 2013, 5 years of NGU and how do we look??
1,001,684 members, 598,999 threads, 4,681,223 posts, an increase of 252K new members, our 2nd biggest yearly increase since the site started : You must login or register to view this content. We hit the million member mark 3 days ago a big milestone for any website :y:

God, I love your threads, Needa. Why do things have to change 
2009 and 2010 were the years I was most active on this site. Then it changed for the worse IMHO. Around the CL time, the sense of community on this site was lost for me. Sadly, this hasn't changed for me. This is why I'm no longer active.

Anyone notice that less threads and posts have been made in the last couple of years? I thought this was the case. What are the admins going to do to stop this?
2009 and 2010 were the years I was most active on this site. Then it changed for the worse IMHO. Around the CL time, the sense of community on this site was lost for me. Sadly, this hasn't changed for me. This is why I'm no longer active.
