A thief stole a Ferrari and demanded the owner to pay $20 as a ransom to get Ferrari back. The owner went out and bought another Ferrari that cost $300,000 and the thief who heard owner refused to negotiate with the thief, damaged the car and got rid of it. The thief is poor and the owner won't press any charges against the thief. Now, who's dumber, thief or owner?

The owner could have just paid the thief $20 instead of wasting another $300k on another car and gotten his car back. On the other hand, the thief could have just sold the car himself.
