Ok so if you have an antivirus like anything for instance lets say you have Avast or Norton,
Open up notepad and put this code into it:

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Then save the file as a .com file, so where it says the name of the file when you click save as, name it example.com or something like that, and if your Antivirus is working properly then something should pop up saying Threat Detected. Moved to the trash.

It is not actually harmful, it is a test created by eciar.com

I'm not even going to bother my common sense is enough to stop me getting viruses and if that fails no script and adblock plus usually keep me covered.

Yeah I have common sense too this is just a text file test to see if your antivirus is going to stop a threat if one would happen to come aboard your pc Happy

You have no common sense. You're using Javascript now. You're probably infected if you don't have an Anti-Virus.

...Verify your AV is working? What...? Why would it stop working? Unless you:
a) uninstalled your AV
b) turned off scanning/protection

I have javascript and cookies disabled on all sites I visit unless they're whitelisted, most of the sites on the net work fine without having to enable either of those anyway, Request Policy is the only addon I have that really breaks pages and I only enable JS and Cookies on a few sites like NGU and others I log into or have settings on. Also Antivirus doesn't stop you from getting viruses, it acts as a last line of defences for idiots that download a run exe's. UAC is more useful that antivirus, and I bet most people here have that turned off because it's annoying.
