A number of green & golden pips are used to show other users your reputation level. The first five pips are dull green, the next five are bright green, then you can have up to 10 golden pips, there are then 4 bronze stars, 4 silver stars and then golden ones.

At 3,001 points - You get a large bronze star (You must login or register to view this content.) and the pips sequence is "reset" to start again. You then get an additional bronze star every 3,000 points until....

When you have accrued 10 bronze stars - You get a large silver star (You must login or register to view this content.) and the pips and bronze stars sequence is "reset" to start again, until you get another bronze star, working your way back up through the pip and bronze star sequence. A new silver star is added for every 10 bronze stars.

1k something = brown star, 3k something = silver star

Ok brown star is 1025 rep not 1k.
