Microsoft will end over 18,000 jobs over the next year, destroying around half the employees at their new required phone business, Nokia. The 18,000 workers amount to 14% of Microsoft's global workforce. This is Microsoft's deepest cuts in over 39 years. It was initially thought that the firm would only decrease the amount of workers by 6,000.
In total it is said that the cuts would cost it between $1.1bn to $1.6bn (£643m to £935m) over the next year.
Employees are not notified whether they will still be working with Microsoft in the next few months. They will find out as Microsoft begins calling them on the 22nd of July.
