Week 12 Monday Review
It's that time to look at what went down and what we may have learned with the passing of the NFL weekend. We will breakdown all the games that were played yesterday. As always if you share a different opinion of what was posted below, feel free to post your opinion.
Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Atlanta was able to pull off a much needed win in this game without Matt Ryan and Michael Turner. Looking back on it you probably should question playing Turner this game instead of giving him the week off in a game they could win without him. However, if the Falcons need to depend on Redman down the stretch you'd have to feel confident with him. He came off the bench played exceptionally well and led the team down the field to score the game winning touchdown. As a Buccaneers fan you have to be excited by the play of Freeman, he was suppose to be QB that was raw and needed to take the season to sit on the bench and learn from a veteran QB. Also, Antonio Bryant looked healthy and had a nice game and got a touchdown, hopefully he remains healthy the rest of the way out as he gives Freeman a very nice target to throw to.
Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills
With this loss to the Bills the Dolphins have now put themselves in must win games throughout if they want to make it to the playoffs. The Dolphins asked too much from Henne and he made the mistakes and the Bills capitalized on them. The Dolphins need to get a WR that can play the position of WR at a high level to help Henne out. Ricky Williams continues to emerge as candidate for comeback player of the year. This Bills offense seems to click a lot better with Fred Jackson as the guy that gets the bulk of the carries. Owens has put back-to-back good games together, unfortunately too late to salvage the Bills season.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Redskins
The Eagles get a good win, but they suffered some key injuries in this game, something that has hampered this team throughout this season. DeSean Jackson will probably miss at least one with a concussion and Brent Celek has said he has torn ligaments in his hand. However, the Eagles have been able to overcome injuries throughout the season. These close wins are a good thing with a team that is as young on the offensive and defensive side of the ball to build confidence in their ability to make comebacks and win close games in the 4th quarter, something that has plagued the team in the past. While the Redskins take another tough loss in the division this season and in back-to-back games. If the Redskins manage to get some talent on the offensive side of the ball they will be a team to be reckoned with as that defense is definitely good.
Seattle Seahawks vs. St. Louis Rams
Seattle's passing offense was rather lackluster in this game. Hasselbeck and that WR corps should have been able to shred that Rams secondary for more then 102 yards. Although, one good thing that came from this game on the offensive side of the ball for Seattle has to be RB Forsett, he had a huge game and that should help out the passing game. The Rams offense was able to move the ball pretty well which is surprising considering that Marc Bulger was out and Steven Jackson was banged up.
Carolina Panthers vs. New York Jets
Oh yes the downfall of the Carolina Panthers Jake Delhomme. When Delhomme has a bad game he goes out of his way to make sure it is really bad add another 4 interceptions to his total on the season. Honestly, I got to question John Fox's playcalling. First off, you know asking Jake to throw the ball a lot in a game is going to cause him to make mistakes and he had him throw 4 interceptions, albeit one was a fluke that was kicked off Steve Smiths heel and into the hands of Revis who took it for a pick six. Secondly, you got 2 very effective running backs yet you only carry the ball 23 times between them. The Jets had a good offensive gameplan going into this game. Run the ball and keep Sanchez from throwing the ball as much as possible, which helped him out and he only made one mistake. A little note from the Jets defense, Kerry Rhodes who got benched earlier this week because he was producing got 2 interceptions in this game.
Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals came into this game with a conservative gameplan. Just pound the rock and that will be enough to win and they were right. Looks like the Bengals have a trend of taking RBs that are underachieving and making them successful as Larry Johson went over 100 yards on 22 carries. After a good game offensively against the Lions the Browns offense returned to its horrible performances. Quinn completed less then 50% of his passes but at least he didn't turn the ball over.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans
The Texans blew a lead and that probably put an axe into any playoff chances they had. They had a chance to keep themselves in the playoff chase and ruin their divisional foes chances at going undefeated. The Colts are the only team in NFL history to win 5 straight games that included a 4th quarter comeback to win. As long as Manning is on this team no matter what type of injuries they have and changes that are made this team will always be a winner. If the Colts can get past the Titans then they have a very realistic opportunity to go undefeated in the regular season.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Diego Chargers
The Chargers jumped on the Chiefs and never allowed them to think they had a chance to win this game, something that the Steelers failed to do against the Chiefs last week. LT had a rather mediocre game but was still able to punch the ball into the endzone twice. Good news for the Chiefs is Jamaal Charles looks like a legitimate RB threat and good weapon to build around in that offense and Chambers had another sound game and once Bowe gets back from his suspension the Chiefs will have two legitimate receivers for Cassel to throw the ball to which willl make this Chiefs offense more of a threat to score.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. San Francisco 49ers
The whole east coast team playing on the west coast seems to effect the Jaguars really bad. They played 2 games on the west coast and scored a total of 3 points in both games. Garrard didn't throw any interceptions but had two costly fumbles. Alex Smith played well and has since being reinserted back into the starting line up and his favorite reciever appears to be Vernon Davis who looks like he is busy getting rid of that bust tag he had all over him coming into this season.
Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings
Jay Cutler continued to make his mistakes albeit on one it was a clear pass interference that wasn't called, however, unlike the game against Philadelphia Cutler didn't look hesitant to throw the ball. Honestly, the Bears are asking too much from Cutler he has not really big time receiver, no offensive line, and no rushing attack. It would take a very super human performance for him to be successful in that situation. With this last performance I think Brett Favre has emerged as the top candidate for MVP for the time being. Jared Allen continues to manhandle every offensive lineman he goes against, 2 sacks and 1 interception, is there anything this guy can't do? However, one downfall to this team that could hurt them in the playoffs is Peterson's fumbling problem.
Arizona Cardinals vs. Tennessee Titans
Chris Johnson and Vince Young continue to lead the Titans to a historic turnaround. Chris Johnson has passed Peterson as the best running back in the league reason I give the edge to Johnson is Johnson doesn't have that fumble problem I mentioned above. While Vince Young won't wow you with his stats the guy puts wins in the win column. Cards do have some good news coming out of this game Leinart played well and while they didn't win, he didn't make mistakes to hurt the teams chances to win either.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens
This was a good game surprisingly considering all the circumstances for the Steelers at quarterback. Dennis Dixon played pretty good considering he took no snaps with the first team offense and had no time to gain continuity with his WRs and offensive line. On the Ravens side, Ray Rice is a an absolute stud and will lead this team to tons of success down the road along with Flacco, they just need to get a young guy at WR to replace Derrick Mason.
