[NFL] Patriots vs. Saints - Monday Night Showdown

Lets take a look at tonight's huge showdown down in New Orleans. We will break it down and see who I think will come out on top. Breakdown will be on the 3 sides of the ball offense, defense and special teams and injuries.

The game will be played in the Superdome down in New Orleans. A game of this magnitude will surely mean that place is going to be rocking and will be tough to call audibles at the line of scrimmage for both teams and to also here the snap count. However, I think both teams will be prepared to face the noise and it won't affect them either way.

Coaches

Quick take on the coaches. First off, I would take either one of these to be the head coach of my team. Belichick is more of a defensive minded head coach while Payton is more of an offensive minded coach. I think Belichick will be able to get just one more stop then the Saints and that will be the difference. If I had to take one of them to coach my team in a big game like this I would have to take Belichick without a doubt.

Offense

Alright, so lets get to the breakdown of both teams offenses. Honestly, you couldn't go wrong with either of these offenses running your teams. If I had to choose I would take the Patriots offense. Reason being I think they have the edge at the receiver position. The Saints receivers are good but I think they are more of a product of what the system they play in, outside of Colston I don't think any receiver on that team would go anywhere and be a legitimate number 2 target. Whereas Welker and Moss would be able to go anywhere and put up the numbers they are now. I think both are equal offensive lines that can keep their quarterback upright. Neither has a running back that you fear at this point in time, its just a bunch of guys that carry the ball and neither has that 1 guy that you look at and say he can get it done if he is called upon.
Edge: Patriots

Defense

Now to the defensive aspects of this game. First off, I'll start by saying I don't expect either defense to play good in this one and if they did it would completely shock me, I expect the guy controlling the scoreboard to have a very busy night. I'll go back to the Colts game and the whole 4th and 2 situation. Belichick opted to go for it on 4th and 2 on his side of the 30, which means he clearly didn't have faith in his defense to stop Manning, so if he don't have faith neither do I.
Edge: Saints

Special Teams

One of the more underrated parts of football is special teams. I think in the returning game aspect it will be a tie if Reggie Bush plays as he and Welker are legitimate threats to take a kick-off or punt the distance. However, the deciding factor in the category is the kickers. If it comes down to a long field goal at the end of the game who would you want kicking that Carney or Gostkowski? I'd take Ghostkowski as Carney's leg has not been tested from a long distance at all this year and at his age it may be tough for him to kick one from a long distance.
Edge: Patriots

Injuries

Injuries, by this time in the season everyone has got them. Belichick pulled out an all out assault on this weeks injury report listing 21 players. However, 20 out of the 21 are questionable or probable meaning they will most likely play. Neither has a big time player out for this game judging by the looks of the injury reports. However, the Saints are very banged up in the secondary and that will hurt them against the Patriots strong passing attack.
Edge: Patriots

So after all that who wins? I'll take the Patriots. I can't wait for kickoff to get this game underway because it is going to be a good one
