I know for awhile my last few posts/threads haven't been too serious but here I need some help on my journey to start actually working out.

So I weigh 150 (lmao I know, too skinny) and I'm 18 and I have no idea where to start. Can someone give me a general outline on what I should do before I get a gym membership?

Thanks,

TBR

It's all depending what you want to look like, if you want to gain weight and get big and ripped I recommend lots of protein and fatty foods. That's only if you would like to gain weight.
Now if you want to get look cut and lean you need to eat healthy foods and a little protein here and there. If you want to get that lean cut look, when you are at the gym you need to do light weight. You need to do some research and figure out what is best for you bc I do not know very much about working out and health, that is just what I learned from high school.

I appreciate your response, NoLifeLogan, but I feel like you stole this information off of an eHow article or a Yahoo! Answers post.

Haha I promise I didn't, I have had trouble with my weight as a teenager and was trying to be big and cut at the same time and it was hard so I did some research and tried to learn what would be best for me lol.

Like NoLifeLogan said it depends on how you want to look. If you do want to get "big" then you need to start bulking up before you do anything.

Calisthenics brah, no gym membership required. If it's good enough for bootcamp then it's good enough for you. Obviously you can still hit up the gym, but calisthenics is probably a good starting point if you've never lifted in your life. As for a diet, if you drink sodas or sweetened drinks I'd highly recommend cutting them out. If you're addicted it will only take around twenty-one days before you kick the habit or at least find ease in kicking it. I'd also recommend cutting out potato chips, candies, pastries, and all that unnecessary shit.

You also need to increase your caloric intake a lot, and it's gotta be clean foods not shit made in a lab loaded with trans fats and a lot of obese shit like I mentioned above. You gotta consume more protein, if I remember correctly its like 1.5 to 2g of protein per pound of body weight. You also gotta consume complex carbs for energy, granted you can still consume simple carbs for that needed boost of energy pre-workout. YOU GOTTA DRINK A FUCK TON OF WATER! I don't know the exact formula to come up with the required ounces of water but if you drink like 10-15 glass you'll be alright. You also need healthy fats. Healthy fats can be found in avocados, salmon, nuts, and other shit. People usually say stay away from saturated fats, but that's your call. I will say this much, STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM TRANS FAT, it's all artificial and it's worse than saturated fats. A good rule of thumb is this, if it says hydrogenated throw it out. And don't forget your leafy greens and fiber, spinach and broccoli are great sources of fiber.

Now if you do start going to the gym and want to get swole I'd recommend supplementing. Granted you can start taking whey protein right now if you feel like you aren't going to get enough protein from your meals. However, before you start taking creatine I'd recommend working out for like three our four months to set a baseline on how effective your workouts are. If you feel like you'd benefit from taking creatine then supplement with it. Just don't be that dumbass who doesn't drink enough water and ends up with fucked up kidneys lol.

Honestly that's all I can think of right now. You can google all the shit you need to know, like meals and shit. If you want I can recommend some supplements that I use in my stack, just shoot me a PM. I'd highly recommend planning out meals and knowing what is in them, like how many grams of protein, etc. You can also google workouts, but honestly if you can't figure out how a machine works in the gym, just ask someone. Don't be that dumbass that does it wrong, and doesn't build any muscle, because chances are you'll be on misc if you do.

Best advice view it as a life style change, slowly walk more and slowly go to the gym instead of jumping into daily gym visits.
So drink more water and walk more.

Start with walking daily and switch to water instead of soda.
Next step is come up with some rough goals like gain more muscle or get fit. Certain goals take longer compared to others for certain body types.

Seriously though it's not something you do for the summer it's an actual lifestyle change you have to adapt to this and it's extremely difficult if you do not have the drive to give 2 hours of your day every weekday to go to the gym, it's a hard commitment but totally worth it once you see the result you work hard to attain - as for routines there's perfect routines you can find online I suggest you watch some PhysiquesOfGreatness vids on YouTube that guy knows exactly what he's doing.

That's silly, you'd want to have at least a good 6-10 pounds of solid mass before you want to bulk properly, you'd just put silly amounts of fat on with little to no mass.
