Here is a well written description(not by me):

when you prick the end of your finger with a pin or needle, a nerve impulse is sent to the brain by nerve induction. The impulse runs to the brain, the brain sends back a message telling you to pull your finger away from the source of pain.

The taser system has two electrodes that send out thousands of little electrical impulses per second into the area of the body where the electrodes connect.

Every single impulse sent by the taser is sending an uncoordinated message to the brain. Due to the number of impulses being received in such an incredibly short period of time, the brain cant process it and basically shuts down.

You lose voluntary muscle control and because of that, you fall down. It is impossible to fight back or put up resistance when you cant use your arms and legs as you want.

Also, In rare cases, people have gone into cardiac arrest and died after being shocked in the chest.
