Well it depends on the forum you want to achieve and your own knowledge of each. Personally I would use vB.

Out of the list, vBulletin is probably the most popular paid forum software. It seems to work pretty well (its what NGU uses), IPB (the other paid one) is actually my favorite (I find it has a smooth, easy to manage interface).

Out of the three free ones, MyBB seems to be pretty popular, and its also fairly powerful (sites like HackForums which have thousands of members use MyBB), SMF is probably good for people new to setting up forums, it seems to be simple to use (like the name), both for members and for administrators.

vBulletin and IP.Board are your best bet. It all really depends on your preferences. Im an IPB person i love the layout and acp. vBulletin i love the layout but the acp is super plain. Again its just what you prefer. As for mods, vb and ipb have a shit ton. mybb has some good ones, php has a shit ton, smf is gay. The best mods are ipb and vbulletin mods, even with nulled you can get a lot of them easy Smile

If your trying to make another "hacking" site just stop there. 99.9% chance it will fail, you will get tired of trying. Unless you develop for the psp yourself then you will just be leeching off other forums. I'm not saying not to make a site but, make one not about hacking unless you are a developer.

I would recommend you to IPB (just because I enjoy it) or vBulletin (its good, probably my second or third favorite). Of course, if that means you have to be willing to spend a decent amount of money to set something up that could very well fail miserably (plus you have other expenses: a domain, hosting, etc.), if you're not willing to pay, I'd recommend MyBB, it seems to be the most "professional".

Whatever you do, don't get a nulled (a free/pirated) copy of vB, IPB (or any other paid software). If you're trying to set up a good, long-lasting community that can grow effectively, you shouldn't start off breaking the law, and you definitely wouldn't want to risk being shutdown just as you start to really gain members.
