Well there are many factors! Such as your location, well that's the main one.

I've always wanted fiber optic internet, but my state is a large ghetto so that is not happening.

Yeah but location?

Depends on who you have around you that can provide internet. I have charter, they are great but customer service sucks.

Depends where you live.....
And how far you are away from your telephone exchange.
Depends on the price too.

I don't know of a US site which lists all the ISPs in your area and speed your likely to get.

Might be different in Scotland? Because all cable has in my area is 50mbps/5mpbs for $100 a month. When fiber is 25mbps/25mbps for half the price. Plus American cable companies typically have higher ping compared to fiber optic.

I would price check on a fiber optic company and then see it's reviews.

I have cable :-/. Our setup was free because we knew some people. We pay $50 a month and we bought our own router and modem for around $140.

I tried checking online for how much a typically setup cost for fiber optic, but I could not find much.

Sorry.
