The FBI is warning all internet users that if they are infected with a "DNSChanger" you will not be able to access any websites in July 2012+.
What the DNS does is reroutes your DNS server to another malicious one. This causes some websites to become unavailable.
The FBI has seized many of these rogue servers and are planning on taking them down in July 2012!

In simple terms, when you type a Web address into your browser, your computer contacts DNS (or Domain Name System) servers to find out the numerical Internet Protocol (IP) address of the site you're trying to reach, and then it takes you there. DNSChanger fiddled with an infected machine's settings and directed it to rogue servers set up by a crime ring -- servers that handed out addresses to whatever sites the ring chose.

The FBI said in a press release that the crooks "were international cyberbandits who hijacked millions of computers at will and rerouted them to Internet Web sites and advertisements of their own choosing -- collecting millions in undeserved commissions for all the hijacked computer clicks and Internet ads they fraudulently engineered."

The FBI had changed the rogue DNS machines into real DNS machines. Thus helping us stay connected.
These "DNSChanger" Malware still has about 400,000 computers infected.

To remove this malware/trojan you can follow the tutorial on this website I found.

This isn't about shutting down internet, it's about a piece of malware that causes your browser to be redirected to a different website.

Why would I go on the computer if the internet works, but doesn't work properly.

I don't see how he was being a smart ass, he thought you weren't understanding it fully and explained. Please don't start an argument over something so small.

For some reason, I read your comment as if you were Batman.

Aside from that, to the OP. This is wicked, any details on how much money they have possibly engineered and if they are going to try and seize it?
