Today we have that answer. According to sources the justification into the raid was largely due to the FBI believing that Mr. Dotcom was in possession of a "dooms day device" which would permanently remove all traces of Internet piracy off the surface of the Internet for good.

Yes, you read that right. When Grant Wormald, the detective inspector who oversaw the daring raid against Megaupload for the Organized and Finical Crime Agency (Ofcanz) spoke with the FBI, the FBI told Mr. Wormlad that, "the device in which Mr. Dotcom is in possession of, is able to be carried with him at will, and upon his command, would delete servers around the world." The FBI went on to say that the "device" could be trigger "at will" and be used "within seconds" from any computer or phone on Mr. Dotcom's personal property. According to reports, should Mr. Dotcom be out of commission for some reason, some 20 of his personnel on his property would've been able to use said "device".

During the daring raid in New Zealand, no such device was ever found within the compound, despite having gone through a thorough search of the massive complex. In response to these recent revelations in the case against Mr. Dotcom, his Attorney is calling the actions of the New Zealand police force, "incompetent, disgraceful, and woeful, pitiful inept performance at all stages and on all levels."

Frankly, to me, seems like the FBI is just trying to justify their own actions when they know they are in the wrong for helping carrying out the raid. I'm quite interested to see how this, and the Demonoid cases turn out. I don't deny such existence of things that would black out entire parts of the Internet at a time. Hell the DOD here in the US took some 27, 000 computers off the Internet a few months back because they turned off some serves, in which the computers that lost their Internet access, were running a DNS virus that relied on the servers that the DOD shut down.

I do doubt that Kim Dotcom was in possession of such an item though. That seems preposterous to me. Surly he would've used it long ago if he had it. Then again that would've taken Megaupload offline anyhow if he had.

Kim Dotcom was quoted as saying in a semi-related story (before this news came to the public) that Megaupload WOULD be returning and all the old links would work again. No ETA as to when though.

My conspiracy may be that the FBI wants the power they do not have to clear the internet from anything that it may have on them. Kim Dotcom had that power if he did have "dooms day device."

That's a good speculation, that I hadn't thought of. Seems quite logical honestly.

When I first heard the name of who owned Megaupload, I lulzed.

If that is real that quite a reason. Half of me thinks it not real and mis information some digging methinks.

Still shocking does show you just how much money in business and how powerful lobby groups are.

Well written article. I do find it hard to believe such a device would be in the possession of Mr Dotcom. I also struggle to see the return of MegaUpload. Maybe he has a trick up his sleeve?

Like I had previously stated, I doubt HE himself was in possession of such an item, but the major world powers? Wouldn't surprise me any one bit if they were in possession of such an item.

I remember when Robert tweeted that out. Surprised me that he was number 1 in the world and managed to maintain his rank 1 status for so long.

He must have been a challenging opponent.
