Tutorial #1 - Not Practical for daily use
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone, Its Research and in this tutorial, I will be demonstrating various ways on how to remain anonymous on the Internet. Privacy is a must, in today's world. Currently, there are a lot of crimes going on, such as Swatting, Doxing etc. When our identity gets leaked, it is a big loss for us and it is somewhat one of the big mistakes of our lives. Which is why, staying secure, and anonymous online is essential.
Ill be explaining to you how you can be anonymous and secure on the internet. I do want to say that there is no way to guarantee you 100% anonymity and security on the internet, the only full proof way is to not use the internet. No matter what the FBI and NSA will always be one step ahead of us, I mean...they are one the largest institutions in the world but I'll show you everything I know about how to stay anonymous and secure.
Lets get started
Linux based operating system
Tails is configured so that it doesnt use the computer's hard-disks, even if there is some swap space on them. The only storage space Tails uses is the RAM, which is automatically erased after the computer shuts down. So you won't leave any trace of the Tails system or of what you did on the computer. NO MATTER WHAT DO NOT use any VPN network! They just take your money, they say that they don't keep logs and respect you're privacy and anonymity..Well thats bvllshit.
Internet browser
You must login or register to view this content. The only browser that I use is Mozila, also do not use IE,Google Chrome,Opera,Safari... Why Mozilla? I try not to use anything that is American produced.
Although Mozilla is American made it is unlike the listed browsers that are also American corporations except Opera (It is Norwegian made) they respect the privacy of users more than others.
Search engines
You must login or register to view this content. Is my number one choice, It is Dutch company. "Startpage offers Web search results from Google in complete privacy, they remove all identifying information from your query and submit it anonymously to Google themselves. They get the results and return them to you in total privacy.
Your IP address is never recorded, your visit is not logged, and absolutely no tracking cookies are placed on your internet browser. When it comes to protecting your privacy, Startpage runs the tightest ship on the Internet. There outstanding privacy policy and thoughtful engineering gives you amazing search results in total anonymity. To learn more, you can check out there privacy page (

Add-ons (For Mozilla)
I do not like to have a lot add-ons on my browser, due to performance and compatibillity issues. I will suggest a few add-ons that I use to stay private and secure.
-Cryptocat (
You must login or register to view this content.) Cryptocat is an open source web and mobile application intended to allow secure, encrypted online chatting.
-HTTPS Everywhere (
You must login or register to view this content.) Encrypts your comunications from thousdan.
-Disconnect (

-Mailvelope (
You must login or register to view this content.) Mailvelope is a browser extension that enables the exchange of encrypted emails following the OpenPGP encryption standard.
-Avast Online Security (
You must login or register to view this content.) for those who use Avast antivirus.
There are still good add-ons such as:AdblockEdge (
You must login or register to view this content. is Adblock Plus not recommended? Adblock Plus shows “acceptable ads” by default, which works, against the purpose of the add-on. Either disable acceptable ads or use the Adblock Edge fork instead.
NoScript (

Email
If you do not want to be under the eye of American email providers(such as Google,Yahoo,Windows live) My recommendation for you is to use Autistici/Inventati (

Antivirus
My favorite free antivirus is Avast (

DO NOT USE FUCKING AVIRA!
Messaging
Pretty Good Privacy or PGP (

Tutorial #2 - More Practical For Daily Use (Thanks to Madison Taylor)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't recommend using tails unless you just literally want an OS to install so you can go buy drugs off of silkroad (or whatever it's replacement is) as a practical everyday OS for using to browse facebook (you shouldn't even have Facebook or any social media if you care about being anon online) or watch and store various forms of media it's not suited to that, it only excels at keeping you anonymous as it routes all traffic through the TOR network though most privacy enthusiasts are not even sure if the TOR network is even safe anymore and I personally would avoid using it all together as you look much more suspicious using it, the best thing you can do to stay anonymous is try to blend in and not stand out.
So I would in still recommend GNU / Linux, any distribution is better than windows or mac, even the spyware called Ubuntu is better, though in particular I'd recommend any of the ones found on the Free Software Foundations website (
You must login or register to view this content.) they are all truly free as in freedom operating systems, they contain no proprietary code, it's all open source and also respects you're freedom too, the consequence of this is that you won't be able to get things like proprietary divers off the repo if you use one of them, but they're free ones to use instead. If this is too much for you, I would recommend just using Debian instead.
So after you're installed your OS, there a few things you should do:
1. Encryption - Use dmcrypt and LUKS for that.
2. DNScrypt - very simple to install and use
You must login or register to view this content.
3. VPN - I would recommend paying, remember if you don't pay, you yourself are the product and for a VPN that's not good. Also try to go for something in Switzerland I again would recommend (SERPICO - Technology | Management | Consulting)
Browser:
I do use a lot of addons for FF, what Research has mention is all good. Here's all of what I use, will be duplicates with the OP:
adblockedge - same as addblock plus, just removes the (allow some non-intrusive advertising option) the lists I use with it are:
- Fanboys Ultimate List
- Anti-Facebook List (removes all social media like buttons and shit, not just facebook)
- Anti-adblock killer reek list (stop websites that try to make you disable your adblock to view their content)
As a little extra, get the element hider for adblock plus too, it's compatible with both forks. With it you can select and hide stuff yourself which can be handy for things that aren't advertisements but still might be irritating on a web page you visit.
Better Privacy - deletes LSO cookies and shit stored by flashplayer that can identify you online
Blender - Does a number of simple about:config tweaks to make your browser and OS look like the most generic and not stand out for example I use GNU / Linux but blender changes my user-agent and other things to make it look like I'm using windows 8 and the most generic version of firefox so that I blend into the crowd.
Cookie Monster - On the fly cookie management, this works best if you do what I do and disable accept cookies by default, that way with this addon you can go to a site, click the icon and choose to allow cookies if you want, if not they are rejected by default.
for best results, combine cookie monster with:
Self-destructing cookies: say you go to a site and it doesn't work barbecue you've not allowed cookies, well you can temporeraily allow the site to give you cookies using cookie monster but set them to delete on tab close with self-destructing cookies so that when you finish with the site they get deleted and not stay until browser close like if you just use cookie monster and temporarily allow.
Greasemonkey - useful for a variety of user-scripts, the anti-adblock killer I mentioned earlier, that's actually a user-script, but also comes with a filter list for adblock + / edge
NoScript - This is a big one, probably the most useful addon, however it will make your initial browsing experience tiresome, the best thing to do with it though is to set it to block everything by default and delete all the stuff that was put in the whitelist by default, then you build up your own whitelist, yes all the sites you normally use will be broken, but once you've built up your whitelist of sites you use regularly, you'll hardly even notice it's there until you go to a new website and it blocks stuff. This and the adblock are crucial to just staying safe online, noscript has saved me from booby-trapped domains I've been linked to before, it really is worth it if you take the time to build up a whitelist.
RefControl – Control what sites you send referers too, I by default block all and if it breaks thumbnails etc. on a site I unblock it, usually used by websites to find out how people are finding their site, passes over info such as the site the user was coming from on to the site you're going to. Helpful for search engine optimisation etc. but not necessary for a user.
RequestPolicy – If you though noscript was bad you'll love this one. So this blocks all requests on a persite basis, so if a website hosts images or anything hosted on another domain links to a video or anything else, requestpolicy blocks it from appearing. With noscript you can allow google and google will be allowed globally, with request policy, you only allow requests on a persite basis, so if you allow requests to google on one site, and go to another and it needs google, you have to allow it again. Tedious but another good addon.
Https everywhere – allows you to set rules for using https
Https finder - actively looks for avalible https being avalible and will force https everyhwhere to use it
That's everything privacy related I use, have other addons but they're for usability not privacy.
